This work was commissioned by Don and Veronica Aldridge to mark their 25th wedding anniversary. The premiere performance took place at the 2023 Coriole Music Festival, performed by the Lyrebird Trio - Angela Turner, Glenn Christensen and Simon Cobcroft.
I first met Don and Veronica through their connection with both the Coriole Music Festival and the Australian String Quartet. They are both generous and tireless supporters and advocates of the arts in Australia, in particular chamber music, and it has been a real privilege to be entrusted with the task of reflecting their life, relationship and love of music in this work for Piano Trio.
The opening two movements are dedicated in turn to Don and Veronica, reflecting upon elements of their individual lives and personalities, and containing hidden (or not so hidden!) references to some of their personal musical loves. The final movement begins as an intimate duo between the violin and cello, bringing together thematic material from the opening two movements. The work culminates in a free-wheeling and exuberant dance-like celebration, characterised by a continuously modulating cycle 25 pulses in length.

REVIEWS
"As this year’s commissioned composer, Anne Cawrse contributed a highly memorable “Anniversary Trio” in honour of festival patrons Don and Veronica Aldridge. Flowing abundantly with inspiration and infectious rhythmic drive, it is very impressively written for the medium of violin, cello and piano. Along the way we heard intriguing quotes from Beethoven and Billy Joel that, as Cawrse explained, acknowledge the musical preferences of its dedicatees. It is probably her finest work to date."
